Câu chuyện về những tấm lòng – Câu chuyện số 1

LỚP HỌC TIẾNG ANH CỦA CÔ ROMY (English below)

Chúng tôi thường hay gọi ngắn gọn như vậy. Lớp học gắn liền với tên cô.

Đó là lớp học tiếng Anh cho các bạn nhỏ tại Mái ấm Tre Xanh, số 40/34 Calmette, P. Nguyễn Thái Bình, Quận 1. Lớp học diễn ra vào các buổi tối thứ Tư hàng tuần.

Cô Romy Ní Haligneán là giáo viên dạy tiếng Anh đến từ Trung tâm ngoại ngữ ILA. Cô đã gắn bó với các em ở đây đã hơn 2 năm. Thời gian 2 năm đối với nhiều người không phải là dài, nhưng đối với các bạn nhỏ ở đây cũng đủ để các con xem cô Romy như là “người nhà” của mình. Cô dạy tiếng Anh miễn phí cho các bé. Cô kiên trì hướng dẫn cho từng bé mặc dù các bé rất hiếu động, cũng có đôi lúc làm cô buồn. Thỉnh thoảng cô còn dành thời gian và kinh phí để đưa các bé đi xem phim.

Có hôm cô bị bệnh không đến lớp được các bạn nhỏ rối rít chạy theo tôi hỏi: “Cô ơi! Sao tối qua cô Romy không đến dạy tiếng Anh cho tụi con?”. Cô ấy chỉ cần vắng một buổi thôi là các bé sẽ nhớ cô và chạy đi hỏi thầy cô vì sao cô ấy không đến, cô ấy có bị bệnh không.

Có lần trong giờ học với cô, hai bạn nhỏ B. và T. cãi lộn, đánh nhau và T khóc rất nhiều. Cô thấy T khóc rất nhiều, cô rất lo lắng…và cô đã nhắn tin cho tôi nhờ tôi hỗ trợ hai bé. Sáng hôm sau, tôi vào mái ấm gặp B. và T. nói chuyện. Sau khi nghe câu chuyện của hai bạn nhỏ. Tôi nói: “Các con đã làm cho cô Romy lo lắng”. Tôi đã quan sát nét mặt của hai bạn nhỏ lúc đó. Hai bạn cúi đầu không nói gì và nghẹn ngào nói: “Con hứa sẽ không nghịch và gây lộn trong lớp tiếng Anh cô Romy nữa”. Tôi cảm nhận được tình yêu mà các bạn nhỏ dành cho cô và cũng như tình yêu mà cô đã dành cho các bạn nhỏ tại mái ấm!

ROMY’S TEACHING CLASS

We are inclined to briefly call the class that way. It is attached to her name.

The English class is intended for the boy children of Green Bamboo Warm Shelter (GBWS) – address: 40/34 Calmette, Nguyễn Thái Bình Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The class is open on Wednesday nights.

Ms. Romy Ní Haligneán is an English teacher from the International Language Academy (ILA). She has worked with the class for two years, providing free English classes for the children. For many people, the two-year period is not long, but for the children here, it is enough long for them to consider Ms. Romy as a family member. Though the children sometimes acted actively and made her upset, she patiently gave them clear instructions for each lesson. Sometimes, she spared the time of taking the children to the movie with her own money.

One day, Ms. Romy got sick and was not able to come to the class. All the children profusely asked me the reason why she was absent and whether she was fine.

Once in Ms. Romy’s teaching class, she saw two boys named B and T fighting and T cried a lot afterward. She was really nervous and texted me asking for help. The next morning I came to GBWS, explaining to them that they made their teacher upset and worry. The two boys turned to Ms. Romy and apologized to her, promising that they would never make a fuss in class again.

I could feel the love between the children and teacher and also see the positive changes in children’s behaviors and the ability to study every day.

TRUNG THU 2019 TẠI MÁI ẤM TRE XANH | MID-AUTUMN AT THE GBWS

Tết Trung thu là Tết của trẻ em. Mỗi năm vào dịp này, các em đều rất háo hức, trông đợi những món quà ý nghĩa đến từ những người lớn. Quà thường là đồ chơi, lồng đèn hình ông sao, cá chép, con gà, con voi,… và bánh trung thu (bánh nếp, bánh dẻo).

Năm nay, Trẻ em Tre Xanh được nhận nhiều tình yêu thương từ các cá nhân, nhóm, công ty, tổ chức và chính quyền địa phương. Các em được hưởng trọn vẹn một mùa Trung thu ý nghĩa, đầy tình yêu thương. Đây sẽ là những kỷ niệm đẹp sẽ theo các em trong suốt con đường tương lai phía trước.

Cơm văn phòng Tre Xanh chính thức trở lại từ ngày 31/7/2019.

Sau một thời gian chuẩn bị về nhân lực, nguồn lực và đã nhận được sự ủng hộ quí báu từ quí ân nhân, nhà tài trợ, đối tác, tình nguyện viên và đồng nghiệp gần xa, mái ấm Tre Xanh đã khai trương thành công quán Cơm văn phòng Tre Xanh tại số 40/34 Calmette, phường Nguyễn Thái Bình, Quận 1, thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, Việt Nam.

Quán cơm văn phòng Tre Xanh là một nỗ lức của đội ngũ nhân viên, cộng tác viên của mái ấm nhằm tạo ra một mô hình gây quỹ bên vững cho mái ấm trong tương lai, góp phần duy trì sự hoạt động bền vững của mái ấm trong công tác chăm sóc, giáo dục và bảo vệ trẻ em có hoàn cảnh đặc biệt khó khăn.

Quán cơm cung cấp cơm trưa văn phòng với hai hình thức: phục vụ tại chỗ và giao hàng tận nơi. Đội ngũ quán cơm Tre Xanh cam kết sẽ mang đến cho quý khách hàng bữa cơm trưa chất lượng.

Tất cả những lợi nhuận kiếm được từ Quán cơm nhằm mục đích hỗ trợ cho các chi phí trong hoạt động chăm sóc, giáo dục và bảo vệ trẻ em.

N’s story

N was born in the year 2000 to a poor family in Binh Dinh province in central Vietnam. N’s family always lived a modest and simple life in the countryside, farming their homestead and raising livestock. N and his brothers and sisters never went to school, instead, they learned to tend to crops and to care for livestock to support each other in the traditional Vietnamese style.

However, what until recently was a highly respected way to raise a family, and which could provide sufficient income, is sadly becoming less fruitful and more unstable, as natural disasters and climate change threaten rural Vietnamese livelihoods, and as the country moves further towards modernization.

When N was just a young boy, his parents separated and his father moved to HCMC. N’s mother met and married a new husband, who sadly was violent and abusive towards N and his siblings.

In an effort to escape abuse, and with his family’s financial concerns in mind, N migrated to HCMC to look for work in 2014, along with the hundreds of thousands of other Vietnamese domestic labour migrants that move to Vietnam’s economic zones in search of a better life every year.
It was the first time he had ever ridden on a bus before, the first time he’d ever travelled alone, and the first time he had ever been away from his village and his family.

As is sadly the case with a lot of rural-urban migrants, N’s transition to HCMC was not easy. Not being able to read or write he struggled to find work, and any work he could find was unstable and low-paid. N slept in one of the city’s many parks at night, constantly in fear of thievery or abuse, unable to shower, and with no space to store his few possessions.

One rainy night Miss Loc, a social worker from the GBWS found N sleeping rough and invited him to the shelter. N was hesitant at first, hearing stories from other migrants about human trafficking, forced detention, and the many other dangers migrants face on a daily basis. He decided to give her a chance, seeing as he had so few options anyway – what did he have to lose? And from that day his life was transformed.

At the GBWS, N was provided with food, medical assistance, shelter, and education. He was welcomed into the GBWS family with open arms and never looked back. Due to his age, we were not able to send him to a state school, but our volunteers taught him to read and write, and because of our social integration project, we were able to secure legal documentation for him and enroll him on work-based training programmes. N is currently completing a hairdressing course at one of the most distinguished beauty salons in the city. He learns fast, is hardworking, and is thriving in his new role.

Sadly due to N’s age, the GBWS is no longer able to fund his course. We are a small charity with just enough means to provide for our boys aged 9-16. This is why we need your help. If N can complete his course, he will have a highly respected and specialist job for life, if he does not, he may have to go back to low-skilled low-paid unstable and unsafe work, re-enter the cycle of poverty from which he was lifted, and potentially end up back on the streets. We are looking for sponsors for N, and all of the other children like him who had a rough start in life, and who simply need a helping hand.

T’s story

My name is T. I am 17 years old and I was born in Ho Chi Minh City. I am living at Green Bamboo Shelter. I am going to tell you about my life.

There are 6 people in my family: my grandmother, my brother, 2 sisters, my mom and me.

My mother left me in front of the temple gate when I was still a baby. My grandmother saw me and carried me into the house. At that time my mother did not have the funds to support me and I was raised by my grandmother to 7 years old. At that time, a volunteer introduced my grandmother to The Green bamboo shelter. I entered the Green bamboo shelter at 7 years old. I have been living here for 13 years. I started my new life at the Green bamboo shelter, I had many new friends and I started going to school.

ILA gave me support to study English. I want to thank ILA because this was my second opportunity. I feel more confident when I can communicate with foreigners in English. My dream is to become a professional baker in an international bakery in the future.

Christmas 2018

Some activities on Christmas holiday 2018 and welcoming New Year 2019. We are so grateful to the students from IT University, our volunteers, friends to have brought a great Christmas holiday 2018 and welcoming New Year 2019 to us.
